{"id":626,"date":"2012-07-16T01:30:49","date_gmt":"2012-07-16T01:30:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mindfulvoyagecounseling.net\/?p=626"},"modified":"2014-03-13T17:06:09","modified_gmt":"2014-03-13T17:06:09","slug":"the-keys-to-overcoming-resistances-are-awareness-and-persistence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mindfulvoyagecounseling.net\/?p=626","title":{"rendered":"The Keys to Overcoming Resistances Are Awareness and Persistence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When we start to learn something new we often meet some forms of resistance. \u00a0It is very normal to feel resistant when we have to process\u00a0new learning or new experiences. \u00a0Resistance is a natural way for our body and mind to maintain homeostasis, in other words, we may feel that something new could change our sense of inner balance. \u00a0Most of us do not like sudden changes and we need to give ourselves time to adjust. \u00a0Because forced changes may result in resistance, it is more effective to be gentle with yourself in the beginning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Resistance comes in various forms, some examples are: a lack of motivation, negative thoughts such as doubts, criticism, judgment, and emotions such as anger, fear, or sadness. \u00a0Other causes for resistance might be pain, boredom, discomfort, and tiredness. \u00a0What are your resistances? \u00a0It is important to become aware of what they are because only then can you find ways to overcome them.\u00a0How do we overcome resistances? \u00a0We need awareness and persistence. \u00a0The first step is to understand what resistances we are experiencing.\u00a0\u00a0Once you have identified the common patterns you can develop a plan to work through them by recognition, problem solving, and seeking support from others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The next important key is persistence. \u00a0Persistence is needed in those times when resistance rises. \u00a0One example would be that you did not practice meditation when you had planned, and you may start to criticize or judge yourself. \u00a0Perhaps feelings of failure become overwhelming and hopelessness starts to raise and you may start thinking &#8220;I can&#8217;t do this&#8221;, \u00a0&#8220;it is just no use&#8221;, or &#8220;why bother with it?&#8221; \u00a0These negative thoughts are very common to most people especially in the beginning. \u00a0 The first step is to acknowledge these resistances and the next step is to follow your plan of action by being persistent. \u00a0Remember, there is no reason why you cannot start from the beginning or pick up where you have left off. \u00a0Each time you practice letting go of negativity, criticism, and judgment, you are practicing removing the obstacles on your path. \u00a0Sooner than you think, you will find that it does get easier.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When we start to learn something new we often meet some forms of resistance. \u00a0It is very normal to feel resistant when we have to process\u00a0new learning or new experiences. \u00a0Resistance is a natural way for our body and mind to maintain homeostasis, in other words, we may feel that something new could change our [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0},"categories":[6],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v16.1.1 -
